Dr. Otambek Mastibekov / آتم بیک مستی بیکاو

( known as Otam-i Tusiyoni / مشهور به آتم طوسیانی)

دکتر آتم‌ بیک مستی‌ بیکاو، با نام ادبی آتمِ طوسیانی، در روستای طوسیانِ ولایتِ خودمختار کوهستان بدخشانِ تاجیکستان، در خانواده‌ای اهل فرهنگ و دانش چشم به جهان گشود. پس از پایان دورهٔ متوسطه در زادگاهش، تحصیل در رشته‌ٔ مهندسی را درقرقیزستان و تاجیکستان آغاز کرد.

 پس از فروپاشی اتحاد جماهیر شوروی، مدرک کارشناسی زبان و ادبیات فارسی و عربی را از دانشگاه دولتی خاروغ دریافت کرد. سپس راهی بریتانیا شد؛ در مؤسسه مطالعات اسماعیلی در لندن ادامه تحصیل داد و در مدرسه مطالعات شرقی و آفریقایی دانشگاه لندن کارشناسی ارشد مطالعات اسلامی و دکترای انسانشناسی سیاسی گرفت.

آثار علمی و ادبی او حوزه‌های متنوعی را دربر میگیرد. او شاعری دوزبانه است و به فارسی تاجیکی و زبان مادری‌اش، شغنانی، شعر ایجاد می کند.

نخستین کتاب علمیِ او، «ریاست و قدرت در آسیای مرکزی»، پژوهشی در حوزهٔ انسانشناسی سیاسی است. کتاب حاضر اثری ادبی است که شعر و نثر را درهم میآمیزد. او همچنین آثاری در حوزهٔ فلسفه و منطق در دست انتشار دارد و مقالات متعددی در زمینه‌های فلسفه، موسیقی، سنت شفاهی، دین و انسانشناسی منتشر کرده است.

This book offers an engaging exploration of cosmopolitan ethics through the voices of both humans and animals. Organised into eight chapters, it explores a variety of themes, including justice, wisdom, listening and communication, political ethics, the value of reading and learning, youth and love, the importance of experience and the advice of elders, and the role of satire in revealing truth.

Written mainly as a work of fiction, the book is interwoven with reflections on ethical and philosophical questions. Through the use of animals as speaking characters, it provides a creative and often insightful perspective on human behaviour and society. The portrayal of people from different social backgrounds also highlights the challenges of achieving social justice, particularly when legal systems fail to reflect moral values.

The book combines both prose and poetry, adding variety and richness to its storytelling. Although inspired by Saʿdī Shīrāzī’s Gulistān (d. 1292), it is not a retelling of medieval stories. Instead, it addresses contemporary issues and concerns, speaking to readers across cultural boundaries. In doing so, it draws attention to both Western and Eastern ethical and cultural traditions.
